Internet access to online trading
« on: 25/10/2007, 02:20:46 AM »
This is just a general query whether anyone knows of any restrictions or legal prohibitions on accessing online trading facilities whilst overseas. Any comments welcome.

Not that I'm aware of.  It's your account, so provided you have internet access overseas you would just log in with your password, etc to your account, as you would today in Oz.

Hi Sascha,
I'm currently resident in the UK and have trading accounts in Australia. There are no restriction on operating the account from overseas but you need to tell them if you're no longer a "resident for tax purposes". It will all depend on how long you are overseas for.

Once you qualify as no longer being resident there are quite a few tax ramifications, the biggest being you can get hit with immediate CGT on all shares you own at the time you leave. The others include imputation credits, tax on interest etc.
